Frequently Asked Questions

What is a legacy film?

Simply put, it's a film all about YOU! Through carefully crafted interviews, we preserve the memories, wisdom, and experiences of your life in a way that allows future generations to connect with your past. Our team uses high-quality video production to ensure that every moment is beautifully captured, allowing you to tell your story in your own words. Whether for a family project, personal reflection, or historical record, we provide a lasting keepsake that can be cherished for years to come.

Why should I create a legacy film?

A legacy film is a wonderful, modern way to preserve your stories. At some point, in all of our lives, we will lose someone we're close to. We all wish we could hear their voice one more time, or hear them tell their favorite story again. Capturing these moments on camera is a perfect way to ensure your stories and memories get accurately passed down from generation to generation.

Who are these videos for?

The short answer: Everyone!

Everyone has stories. Everyone has something worth sharing. Of course, the older you are, the more you likely have to share, and the more likely you are to want to be remembered, but regardless of your age, we have a fantastic list of questions to help guide you through your story so that family or friends watching will be able to have a great idea of how/where/when you grew up and how you became the wonderful person you are.

How will I receive my videos?

Your final videos will be delivered via a custom, password protected webpage. You will have access to download all of your videos and share them with family and friends.

You may also opt to purchase a flash drive with all of your videos for an additional $50.

How should I dress for my interview?

Dress like yourself! Our goal is to capture you as your most genuine self.

With that being said, solid colors tend to look best on camera, and if you're doing your interview with another person, we recommend wearing complimentary colors.

What if I don’t have a lot of stories to share?

Everyone has stories. Everyone has different experiences that are worth being shared. We have a comprehensive list of questions to help guide you through your story. And we're always willing to tailor questions and prompts to help fully capture the picture of your life that you'd like to share with others.

How long does filming normally take?

Filming time is largely dependent on the package you select. Generally speaking - the time of actual filming ranges from one to three hours. In total, you can expect us to be there for an additional hour or two for planning out the filming location, setup, and take down.

How should I prepare for my interview?

Take some time to reflect on your past. Try to recall your favorite stories and memories. If you requested the questions ahead of time, then read through them and think about how you might answer each one. Ultimately, this is about you and your life. So, sit back and relax because there is no one more qualified to talk about you then... well... you!

Where does filming take place?

In the comfort of your own home! We have found that people's stories are best told when they are comfortable and in their own space. While we can typically make any space in your home work, the final location will ultimately depend on lighting and spacing.

What if I don't want to film at my own home?

For most people, we strongly suggest filming in your own home, as it adds another layer of helping capture your life on camera. However, we never want this to stop people from filming, so, please, if filming at your home is not something you'd like to do, just let us know. We can always find a space to accommodate you and capture your story.

What if I need to reschedule my filming session?

We understand that life happens. We kindly ask that you let us know 48 hours in advance so that we're able to notify the next person in line and shift our filming schedule.

Is a deposit required to book a session?

Yes, we require a 50% deposit to schedule a filming date. The remaining 50% is due at filming.

Can I gift a package to someone?

Absolutely! If you intend to gift a package, please let us know and we would be happy to provide you with a gift certificate.

In terms of the logistics, after the deposit is paid by the sender, we will provide the gift certificate. The gift certificate will have information regarding scheduling, and we will work directly with the recipient to arrange the filming date. After filming, we will invoice the sender the remaining portion due.

What is the refund/cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel your order for any reason, we will provide a full refund of your deposit if notified 24 or more hours before the scheduled filming time. If we are notified less than 24 hours before filming, we will provide a 50% refund on your deposit.

Do you travel for filming?

Yes! We love to travel, and we will happily film anywhere in the world. However, if it's more than 50 miles from our zip code (49428), there will be a fee for associated travel costs.

What if I need a rush order?

Our typical turnaround time is 2-6 weeks, depending on the selected package. If you need your gallery sooner than this, please let us know know. Depending on our backlog, there could be a fee associated with rushing your order, but we always try our best to accommodate special timelines.

Can I choose the interview questions or topics covered?

Of course! Our desire is to produce videos that help capture you in a way that makes you comfortable. We have a list of twenty standard questions that we typically suggest people start with to help cover the basics, and LOTS of other question suggestions after that. You can answer as many or as few of them as you'd like. The goal is ultimately for you to talk about whatever makes you YOU.

Will you give me the questions ahead of time?

Absolutely! Some people prefer lots of time to prepare and think through their answers, while some want the questions to be a surprise and give candid, in the moment responses. Both options are great and ultimately, person dependent.

Many people like to write down their answers to prep for the interview, and while that's a great way to prep, we highly suggest you don't read your answers when you're on camera. Your interview should feel natural, and like a conversation, and this is typically better captured without a script in hand.

What if I'm not comfortable on camera?

We try to make every interview as much of a conversation as possible. The goal is that by the end you will forget there’s a camera and just enjoy reminiscing on past memories.

Can multiple family members participate in one film?

Our packages are best suited for one to two participants. If you have a bigger family, or a bigger vision in mind, please don't hesitate to reach out. We would be happy to discuss custom package options that might better suit your needs.
